How to Make Flossing Easier When You Have Braces

How to Make Flossing Easier When You Have Braces

If you are aligning your teeth with braces, you likely have a hard time flossing your teeth. This is common because it’s oftentimes difficult to work the floss under and around the hardware. Fortunately, this doesn’t have to be the case for you if you don’t want it to be. There are things you can do to make flossing when you have braces easier. Our orthodontists, Dr. Bradshaw and Dr. Hathaway, are happy to tell you all about them, which are:

-Use a floss threader: A floss threader is a handy, disposable tool that has a loop on one end. To use it, thread the floss through the loop, thread the looped tool under your braces wire while holding one end of the floss, and pull the tool away so the floss falls from the loop. At this point, the floss is at the perfect position to clean between your chompers.

-Use a water flosser: A water flosser helps clean your teeth and braces. It is a wand and a water reservoir. The wand sprays water out of the tip customized to your liking. All you need to do is place the tip where you want to clean, wrap your lips around the wand, and then spray.

-Use waxed floss: Waxed floss slides gently and carefully along your teeth and braces without catching on hardware easily. It’s best to use this type of floss so you can have a more convenient flossing routine.
