Smile Assessment

Smile Assessment

Ideally, orthodontic assessments should start early. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children should be evaluated by an orthodontist by age seven. Drs. Bradshaw and Hathaway can detect any issues with jaw growth and development and emerging teeth at this age. Most children begin orthodontic treatment between the ages of 9 and 14.
Drs. Bradshaw and Hathaway will ask questions about your child’s past oral health during his or her orthodontic evaluation in Johnson City, Tennessee. The mouth and teeth are checked for any signs of malocclusion, which is defined as crooked teeth or a bad bite. X-rays and photos will be taken of your child’s face and teeth. If necessary, a model will be made of your child’s teeth.
Early detection of any orthodontic issues means that our orthodontists can begin treatment when it is most advantageous. Drs. Bradshaw and Hathaway will monitor the development of your child’s teeth and bite until the best time to begin treatment.
Early orthodontic treatment usually takes less time than adult orthodontics. However, this does not mean that if you did not have orthodontic treatment as a child, it is too late. Orthodontics for adults is becoming more and more popular.
We invite you to contact our office to learn more and to schedule an appointment for yourself or for your child.
