As you may already know, oral hygiene is vital for your oral health. Unfortunately, having braces can make properly cleaning your teeth and smile very difficult. But it doesn’t make it any less important. In fact, keeping up on oral hygiene is even more important when you have braces. So, to help you properly clean your smile and braces when you brush, our orthodontist, Dr. Daniel Bradshaw, has some secret tricks he would like to share with you.
First, brush your chompers and braces with a soft toothbrush. This might sound like a silly trick because soft brushes don’t seem very strong. But, they are. In fact, soft toothbrushes can effectively clean your teeth and braces and keep your oral health in tip-top shape. The most important characteristic about a soft toothbrush is that is can properly clean your teeth all while caring for the gums.
Second, begin your brushing technique with a wet toothbrush and then add toothpaste later. This can help you deeply clean under the wires and around the brackets easily. When you brush with toothpaste, the foam and bubbles make it tough to see, which can result in not completely removing the harmful substances from your teeth and braces. So, make sure to begin your brushing technique with a wet toothbrush and then add toothpaste later.
Third, use a picking motion when you brush with a wet toothbrush. The picking motion can help your brush bristles act like toothpicks. It can help you effectively remove the particles that are stubbornly stuck in hard-to-reach places. Feel free to return to the scrubbing motion when you add toothpaste to your brush.
